FUNDRAISING FOR BOOKFRIENDS INTERNATIONAL, NFP
Funding is needed to ship books we receive from school district consolidation and other book donation resources.
Many thanks to our ‘Book Friends’
who have organized successful fundraisers to support our mission to provide textbooks, library books, and reference materials to secondary schools who do not have the educational resources they need.

Please consider organizing a fundraiser with your family, friends, associations and neighborhood groups to benefit secondary school students and teachers without books in their classrooms and school libraries.

Fundraising Events

A Mile of Pennies
Middle school teacher challenged her students to collect pennies for Bookfriends International and turned the project into a math-problem as well as raising awareness of needs across the world. The problem: “How many pennies, laid side by side, would it take to make a mile of pennies?” After the students solved this math-problem, they were asked to return the penny given them as they entered the classroom as the first contribution to the mile of pennies. Students then began collecting and bringing pennies to class until they had 84,480. The $844.80 was given to Bookfriends.
Neighborhood Event
Two teenage girls set up a hot dog and hot chocolate stand during a neighborhood event. They advertised these goodies would be for sale with profits going to Bookfriends, International. They raised $200.00 for Bookfriends.

comes from all ages
Birthday Girl
Birthday girl in Cook County has requested for the past 6 years that her family and friends remember her with monetary gifts. Each year she has chooses a different charity for her donation. Recently Bookfriends was honored to receive the generous gift.
Dictionary Drive
Girl Scout troop in Lake County spread information in their community and with their family and friends that Bookfriends International would like to find as many dictionaries and thesaurus as possible. This is a timely project - before families and schools dispose of hardcopy resources when their students turn to the internet for this information,  they urged folks to give the dictionaries / thesaurus to Bookfriends where the need is great. (Bookfriends sends a dozen of these resources to every school receiving our books.)
Every dollar helps.  One dollar ships 2 textbooks to Africa.
Educational Program on Africa
A 5th grade class in a northwest suburban Chicago school was preparing a program on Africa, complete with African music, artifacts and foods. As part of the preparation, they decided to help African students by collecting funds. Several hundred dollars were donated to Bookfriends International by students who were hoping to make a difference through their learning about Africa, and sharing from their abundance.
High School Interact Club
Area high school Interact Club (community-service oriented organization) raised awareness of Bookfriends’ mission by selling T-shirts to fellow students. Funds from the sale were donated to Bookfriends.
Read-a-thon
Private school academy planned and successfully organized a Read-a-thon for each of the past few years. The students find sponsors to donate dollars to each student reading during designated sessions - per book and time spent reading. How valued and heart-touching are the hundreds of dollars they have given to Bookfriends to help with shipping expenses!!
Pennies for Postage
Elementary school in McHenry County organized a book drive which also became a fundraiser for Bookfriends. Though this was called Books and Pennies for the Postage, they gathered coins of all denominations to deliver nearly $500.00 to help with shipping costs along with the donation of several thousand books.
Book Sale
Church group organizes a rummage sale every year with an area set up just for books. They called the book nook the “Bookfriends Room” and donate all of the proceeds from the book sales to Bookfriends. So far they have donated $400.00 dollars which was enough to ship 800 books!
